We've crossed the half-way point, geographically, and today is the only day of rest for the Motorcycle Cannonball. A term that is actually a misnomer. There will be no rest for anyone today, but there was no starting line, no sigh-in, no pre-dawn alarms to warn us that the race has begun again.
Instead, today will be about catching up with ourselves. There will be laundry and shopping and wrenching. Lots of wrenching. Crews dug in last night and started the chore of readying machines for the next 1,580 miles. Weather is predicted to be hot and terrain gains some altitude right away as riders face the longest day of the entire route on Monday. At 272 miles, it will be a hard day. Riders, remember to recharge your own batteries, too. We're headed into higher altitudes, longer miles and more extremes so be sure to hydrate, rest and relax. You're going to need it.
