Course Master John and his wife Rachel have finally reached sunny skies and temperatures of 72-degrees after their fourth day of driving the route for the Motorcycle Cannonball. After 3 ½ days of traveling across North Carolina, the couple has made their evening stop in Chattanooga, the fourth largest city in Tennessee. The large metropolis lies along the Tennessee River and is at an elevation of 680 feet above sea level.
STAGE 4- From Maggie Valley, NC to Chattanooga, TN
Monday, September 13
Our fourth day on the road will be less strenuous than the prior, but still includes some steep terrain and mountain travel. We will ride along the crest of the Appalachian Mountains, a vast system of mountains that stretch from Canada down into Alabama, along the Cherohala Skyway, and through the Cherokee Nation. We’ll reach an altitude of 5,000 feet before dropping down into Chattanooga and ending our day with 193 miles behind us. This brings us to a total of 797 miles since our Grand Start.
Our event sponsor, Coker Tire Company in Chattanooga, will provide the evening’s promotions and dinner. Owner Corky Coker, is Cannonball rider #88 and will be riding a 1908 Thor during our transcontinental adventure. Coker Tire Company is the world’s largest supplier of antique tires and wheel, and our participants’ source for both. Additionally, Coker Tire Company has a vintage automobile and motorcycle museum that we will be able to visit. Below is a clip from that museum. www.cokertire.com
