This penultimate stage of the ride will be grueling for our Cannonball riders, reports Course Master John Classen. We will climb out of the Colorado River basin and pass into California early in the day.

STAGE 15- From Laughlin, NV to Victorville, CA

Saturday, September 25

Our riders will be confronted with some hard surfaces and difficult miles on a very busy US highway for part of this day. We’ll spend 25 miles in 65-mile per hour traffic with no shoulder and another 30 miles of very rough and bumpy blacktop that will be challenging for our Motorcycle Cannonball riders.

Most of this 221-mile route will be spent on US Highway 66 and will include the second longest remaining intact section of the famous highway. This stretch makes up 90 miles of our journey for this weekend day. We will pass high-desert fauna and follow along the Santa Fe Railroad for much of the way. Despite the close proximity to Los Angeles, our riders will not yet experience the extensive congestion of the Los Angeles traffic.

Our rider’s overnight stop will be in Victorville and dinner will be graciously hosted by the Victor Valley Harley-Davidson dealership.

Victorville is located at the southwestern edge of the Mojave Desert and the Mojave River runs sporadically through the town. September’s normal temperature for the area is in the mid-70s. By day’s end, we will have traveled 3,173 miles on our historic journey and only the final day of riding remains before achieving our goal at the Pacific Ocean shore.
