Atascadero, CA, May 6, 2010 – Here at the Motorcycle Cannonball World Headquarters, we receive a steady stream of information about vintage motorcycles, the people who love them, and the events dedicated to two-wheeled history. We love it all but when Cory, an intrepid contributor to our collection of film clips and articles about vintage motorcycles, told me about the annual Stephen Wright Vintage Motorcycle Ride, all manner of bells and whistles went off. We knew we had to be there for the 2010 outing.
Here's video with Bill Rodencal, H-D Museum Archives Motorcycle Restorer/Conservator.
In this clip, Bill talks about his 1914 10-B motorcycle, the bike he'll be riding this September in the 3,300 mile coast-to-coast Cannonball endurance race.
Steve Barber's 1915 H-D LIVES!
New York resident and Motorcycle Cannonballer, Steve Barber, recently purchased a 1915 Harley-Davidson for the upcoming ride in September. Barber is still researching its history, but it is thought that this beautiful motorcycle had not run since 1979. So it was with great enthusiasm that Steve watched his first pre-1916 bike fire up. Check out this footage of its first few minutes of combustion, snowflakes and all.

“Ride them! That is what they were made for! It is the most fun you can have during your short stay on this planet…..It is far more satisfying than just looking at a piece of history that has been put in jail with a sign stating “Do Not Touch” on it, just because of its age. “Jailed” is a museum piece, yet yearning to breathe life again. Don’t let FEAR keep you from fulfilling a dream. You will have a wonderful, satisfying experience, which you will be able to take with you into the next dimension.”

Canadian Motorcycle Cannonball rider, Pete Gagan, has a great video clip up on youtube called "Pete's Garage" that is well worth the watch. Entertaining, interesting, and educational, you can get a peek at the machine that we've heard might be accompanying Pete to the states when he travels to Kitty Hawk to participate in the Cannonball. While Pete will be riding his Zenith this September, he might also bring along this magnificent vntage machine to display. When was the last time you saw an 1896's steam powered motorcycle that works?
