#1 Hans Coertse

The motorcycle I have selected is a 1913 Matchless Model 5B, 976cc, V -twin cylinder with Engine #303102, fitted with a Juckes 3 speed and reverse gearbox for sidecar work, I will not be restoring the sidecar at this stage and the entry will therefore be a solo. The bike was a colonial model and appears to have been in South Africa for all of its lifespan. The gearbox, which is a period gearbox was fitted with supplied rear swing arm and these are not of Matchless supply.

I acquired the bike from Brian Wallace, who has owned the bike for the past 3 years. The bike has been under restoration  for the past several years while it has also been sold 4 times during the restoration, the frame has been sandblasted and much of the preparation in terms of frame and engine castings have been completed, gearbox gas been restored.

A picture of the bike in its pre restored state is attached, this picture is circa 1960.
