#83 Jon Szalay
1913 Excelsior 7B
Jon Szalay’s third Cannonball, each with a different pre 1915 Motorcycle. As a restorer, collector, and curator of these old machines it’s important to Jon on the Cannonball rides he puts together a different bike each time. “We don’t do this ride because it’s easy, We do it for the challenge”! For Jon part of that challenge is wrenching on these hundred year old machines across the country and learning the different engineering on the different makes of motorcycles of that time.
This year Jon will be taking a 1912 Excelsior twin belt drive along his side will be partner Christine Grove. Together the two will restore and ride this motorcycle from Sault St Marie MI to South Padre Island TX.
The Motorcycle started with a rough chassis and motor. The Chassis came out of Michigan as well as the motor and the Girl ;-). The rest has been gathering pieces and parts throughout the country at various swap meets.
They are currently still looking for a few key parts, like a rear belt sheave which is the main rear wheel pulley for the belt drive and also missing the belt drive clutch.
